Style Crush: Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Spring 2013

on Monday, September 30, 2013

I've always aspired to have a blue rinse when I grow up. There is something so awesome about the 'old birds' who rock it; they just seem to be having a lot more fun in their old age! That's why I am totally in love with this first look from Vivienne Westwood's Red Label collection for Spring 2013. Getting old just got chique!

Vivienne Westwood has been my favourite designer for as long as I can remember. I love how she cuts fabric and I like that her looks are classically based but always have a killer edge to them. If we ever get rich you can guarantee one of my first big purchases is going to be one of her fabulous structured gowns ... and maybe even some mary-janes to match!

Being a massive fan of vintage fashion, there is a lot of inspiration to be had out of these looks. Just because I can't afford the real thing just now doesn't mean there is no fun to be had! Simple things like gloves and fascinators found in thrift shops and even your grandmothers closet can totally evolve a cheap n cheerful dress from modern to classic in a flash. If you have time (and a whole lot of hairspray), give your hair a few victory rolls and you've got yourself a whole new look :D

And remember, a girl can never have too many hats, gloves and shoes!

Peanuts: Hey Ya

on Thursday, September 26, 2013

This video of Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang dancing to Hey Ya makes us really happy! I actually tweeted it a few days ago, but I wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to see it :) It's 4 minutes and 7 seconds of sheer gold!
This week actually marks 10 years since Hey Ya was released! Can you believe it? It's still on our playlist and defo one of our favourite tunes - a true modern classic :)
Enjoy!

DIY: How To Make Washi Tape Feathers

on Wednesday, September 25, 2013

It's one of my best friend's birthdays this week (hello lovely!), so I've decided to create some lovely washi tape feathers to jazz up her gift. These are really simple and really cute so I thought I would create a quick little DIY for you - I bet they're going to be super handy when Chrismas comes around!

All you need is some washi tape, a little bit of string and a pair of scissors...

Take a piece of washi tape that's around 3 inches long (a good size to start with), and lay your string down the middle of it. If you let a little extra string hang over each end of the tape, you can pull it tight and it'll stick down straight.

When you're happy with the positioning of the string, cut out another piece of tape at the same size and stick it over the top to create a little string sandwich. Don't worry if they don't match up exactly, you can trim off any overhanging tape.

Cut around the piece of tape into a feather shape. The great things about feathers is that they come in all shapes and sizes, so don't worry if it's a little wobbly :)

Next up you want to make it more feathery! Using your scissors, snip little diagonal slits all the way around the edge. Cut them as close together as you can, but don't worry if they're not all spaced out exactly the same; it's organic!

Once you've got one side nailed, do the same to the other side. Genius!

When you're done snipping, literally ruffle your feathers a little!
Using your finger, gently rub down the feather in the opposite direction so it messes up how they sit a little. I quite like really split feathers - to make sure you have a few gaps in your piece, carefully snip out a few little bits or even just snip the corners off a couple of the edges. I've done a few randomly all over, but you can do as much or as little as you like...

*Ta*Da*
Isn't it awesome? A few minutes ago that was just a bit of tape; it's just amazing what a little bit of TLSC can do :D Now you can embellish gift wrapping 'till your heart's content... or you could even use them as bookmarks. Perfect!

We hope you have fun trying out this weeks tutorial :)

Classic Car Show, East Fortune, Scotland

on Monday, September 23, 2013

This weekend we went to check out the big classic car show at East Fortune. I used to go to these car shows a lot when I was younger; our family love vintage cars so we used to have big family day's out at them, which was a lot of fun. It's been more than 10 years since I've been to an event like this, so I was a little intrigued as to what I'd discover!

Whilst there was a lot of amazing cars at the event, there was a lot of other incredible things we really didn't expect to see... like the Concorde! The venue is actually the National Museum of Flight air field. There is a lot of incredible old airplanes tucked up in hangers that you can climb on board and have a look at which was really fun. This is the cockpit of the infamous Concorde planes. I wish we could have flown on one of these. I'd love to go sonic-speed to New York!

British Airways also came to the event with an extra special air hostess uniform catwalk show. This I was particularly thrilled about - I'm not sure why but I've always been fascinated by these outfits! There is something so amazingly stylish about them. This was an extra special show as the models were actually making their entrance by descending down the steps of the Concorde :D

We also got the chance to see The White Helmets bikers perform some spectacular stunts. I didn't really know much about them before now, but I have to admit I'm hooked! Here they are all riding on a motorbike. Crazy, huh! And they used bikes to jump through flaming hoops too. Totally awesome! Apparently a lot of the drivers don't even actually have their licences. They drive better than most though!

Last, but certainly not least, were both really excited about getting to see lots of amazing owls too. Check out these two little fellows! They were so heartbreakingly cute. There was a really long queue to hold them which we didn't have time for, but it looked like a lot of fun. Maybe next time!

So, all in all, we had a brilliant weekend. Who knew there was so much to be fun at a classic car show still? We're getting really into going to random days out over our weekends... who knows what'll happen next week!

Keep your eye out on wednesday for more photos :)

Renegade London 2013 - Here We Come!!

on Saturday, September 21, 2013

Eeeeep! As you can tell by ridiculously happy face, we are totally jumping for joy over our latest news; we're participating in this year's Renegade Craft Fair in London! Wooop Wooop!

Renegade Craft Fair 9th and 10th November, The Old Truman Brewery, London E1 6QR

For those of you who are yet to discover the wonder that is Renegade, it's an almighty event for artists and makers alike and it's something I've always wanted to do. It's really huge in America (it all began in Chicago) and this will be their third year in Blighty - the only place they go outside of their motherland. If you like handmade, you're going to LOVE this craft-tastic show down!

So, from now 'till the 9th November, we're going to be working our little socks off in preparation for our biggest show yet. Fancy coming down to support us? Pop it in your diary and you will make our day!

If you have any ideas, suggestions or advice about the event, where to get awesome display stuff from (in the UK), or if you've visited or participated in the event before we'd love to hear from you :D

Hope to see you there and we'll be sure to keep you updated!

Food For Thought...

on Friday, September 20, 2013

We've just discovered the magical works of Samantha Lee and we have fallen head over heels in love! She's been crafting these incredible food sculptures to encourage her young daughter to eat at dinner. Aren't they just the coolest thing's you've ever seen?

Having been a difficult eater when I was little (a phase that is now loooong gone!) I can't help but be a little jealous of these plates of wonder. Whilst Samantha says that it doesn't put them off tucking in, I think I would find it hard to destroy them. We're totally thrilled she's keeping a record of them though - so inspiring!

Hungry for more? Me too!

DIY: How To Make Cute Fabric Band - Aids (or plasters!)

on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

I have a pretty insane obsession with plasters. It's only something a few people know about me, but I think it's about time to come out of my little Band-Aid closet. I have a vast amount of styles - many of which I never want to use as they look so freaking amazing, but it's something I've always collected and something I've always taken great pride in wearing. It's like the silver lining to getting a 'boo boo', something I always look forward to should I happen to injure myself (being clumsy, one needs a silver lining to injury!) Whenever I go on holiday, one of the things that's always on my to do list is to go look for new ones. Many of my favourites have come from America, but I also found some great ones in Europe too. Here's a peek at the current contents of my bathroom cabinet "Plaster Shelf"...

*BOOM*
Didn't expect to find that on the blog today, did you? Haha! I kinda have something for every mood I'm in, much like one does with shoes :D So it's pretty clear to see what influenced this week's How To Make Cute Fabric Band-Aids (or plasters) DIY... and needless to say, I'm pretty excited by the venture. Who doesn't want to look stylish after cutting a finger? My thoughts exactly. Rather than spend a fortune on an obscure plaster collection, here is how you can make your own...

First up, get yourself a box of fabric Band-Aids

Cover the fabric side with double sided sticky tape and cut around the plaster shape so it is completely covered.

Lay down some cute fabric (remnants are ideal for this tutorial), and rub the sticky tape side onto the reverse.

Carefully trim the excess fabric from the plaster and you're done!

*Ta*Da*
You've got to admit, these look pretty wicked! Plus I get to wear a new style with every new fabric I collect :) Genius! I hope you have fun playing around with this little diy. Also, if you happen to have any amazing band aids that need a new home, you know who to call ;)

Happy Making!
