Woohoo! Today we are heading off to Disney World and we are bouncing off the walls with excitement! Neither of us have been since we were kids, so we can't wait to take a trip down memory lane and go on some of our all-time favorite rides again. I've decided to fully embrace my inner child and get dressed up to the nines for the day too. It's not every day you can travel back in time - it would be silly not to!
Being a bit of a theme park feind, I like to be prepared... but with as little as possible! With these bare essentials, I'll be taking on the day like a pro. You don't really want to carry anything at a theme park if you love going on all the extreme rides, but being a girlie, I cant abandon all sanity...
Pack light & pack clever!
You'll want a small bag that you can sling over your body so you don't need to hold onto it for a start. Make sure it has a zip on it to hold everything in it too - you don't want your stuff to fall out when you're on a ride :S
I'll be bringing my camera and phone, but I will put them in a ziplock bag for all the water rides - simple but GENIUS!
Bring the smallest purse you can too. You'll need money for food and drinks for the day ... and maybe a few purchases after the firework show! Bring a little cash but try to use a credit card if you can - the less change rattling around the better :)
Sunglasses and sunscreen. Perhaps even a hat if you look good in one of those! Like it or not, you will be standing about in a long que at some point. You will get burnt to a crisp if you don't take care of yourself. If you're bothered about getting wet, pick up a poncho too. I dont mind drying off in the sun :)
Finally, because I plan to get soaked on all the water rides, I'll be bringing my lipstick and eyeliner... told ya I was a girlie :P
If you get a little carried away and want to buy something before the day is up, ask the staff if they can hold your purchases. They can do it at certain locations, but make sure you ask before you buy to avoid disappointment and having to carry it around for the rest of the day.
There are lockers in the park that are available to rent should you be in desperate need. Beware! These are expensive to use, ranging from $7 - $9 per day according to size and a $5 deposit for the key. In Universal Studios there are free lockers at each ride as you are permitted from taking any belongings on them with you. Something worth remembering if you're going to hit up Florida hard :D
Also, for those of you who are trying to save a little money where possible, a great Disney tip is that you can bring your own food into the park (within reason!). We've decided to go 'all out' on this occasion, but if you're feeling a little strapped for cash and don't mind carrying a bit extra, why not bring in a sandwich, snack and a little candy for the day? You could also bring in your own water bottles and top them up at the fountains for free (they're always situated by the toilets). Alternatively, you can always ask the cast members at the food kiosks for a cup of water. Again, it's free and you can chuck the cup when you're done :) Remember to keep hydrated for the day - your body will thank you for it!
At the end of the day, don't take anything with you that's precious, sentimental or can't be replaced. Disney is equipped for everything you could possibly forget, as long as you don't mind paying a little extra to what it would normally cost you in the shops. The fun only lasts a day, so make the most of it!
Have fun :D
