Inspiration: Japanese Adverts From The 1950s

The other week on the train I stumbled upon the most whimsical collection of Japanese adverts from the 1950s and I've been dreaming about them ever since! So simple and pretty, it's hard not to be inspired by them. I'd love to print some of these out and hang them up in the studio; David and I have a bit of a vintage advert collection going on right now!

 Don't you just love how timeless these are? I have no idea what they're on about, but I'm pretty sure I want to buy one of everything. Why can't we kick it old school and do amazing print adverts like this any more? Illustrators and designers are super overlooked these days. If anyone wants to hire us to draw them an advert, I'm totally game!

Top 5 Crushes: Super Bowl Ads 2012

Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday and that means one thing. Good adverts!

Here in the UK we don't get to watch any of the American ads, so we thought we would share our top 5...

First up, Ferris Bueller made a comeback.

Next, Betty White. Don't you wish she was your grandma?

Plus Christina Aguilera gets to be a ninja...

Nice.

This advert proves you don't need bells and whistles and famous folk to make people take notice. We were particularly won over by the girlfriend!

We always wondered what Mr Sandman looked like. Now we wish we didn't know!

We also learned that it's Motley Crue who make your dreams come true. Wait... is that wrong?

Finally, it has Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno in it and it's like a 30 second movie. This advert is super American, but it is also super funny. Well done to famous people making fun of themselves, we likey!
